CENTRAL COMMAND
BACK IN ACTION 2024
After a long hiatus, We be the Echo is back in action in 2024. Look out for new recordings, gems from the vaults and/or live shows in the coming months.
To mark the occasion, we’ve re-released our debut EP/demo "Cubist Music" on its 20th anniversary. This rarity had a limited CD run back in 2004 (long since sold out) and has never before been available digitally. It features an early version of our classic “Drain in Flood” (that some say has a better “pocket” than the later version) and also three early songs not found anywhere else. You can now find it on the Chuckbeat Records Bandcamp. (While you’re there, also check out some rarities from other bands/projects with WBTE members.)
It's still TBD exactly what lies ahead-- stay tuned! We'll post here and on our main socials-- Facebook and X/Twitter.
RETURN TO NATIONS - NEW ALBUM
'RETURN TO NATIONS' available now!
Head over to Bandcamp to buy or stream the new album in its entirety. It is also available on iTunes and most other major digital outlets.
LIVE ACTION - FALL 2011
Our first post-album show is fast approaching. We'll be sure to play songs from the new album and can't wait to melt faces in live action form again. It is an amazing line-up not to be missed-- Walls (UK) will be joining us in between US dates with Battles, and Sean Smith's new record was produced by Tim Green (The Fucking Champs).
SATURDAY, OCT 15, 2011 - Hemlock Tavern, San Francisco
w/ Walls (UK) & Sean Smith
21+, $7, doors 9:30pm.
We'll also be doing an interview and playing tracks from the new album on the "Baghdad by the Bay" show on Radio Valencia (87.9 FM) a few days prior to the show. If you don't live nearby, you can stream it from interweb. That'll be Thurs Oct 13th at 8pm.

August 2010
We're busy recording some new stuff right now. Basic tracking was done recently at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland with the wonder that is Adam Myatt, engineer/producer extraordinaire.
We'll be busy adding extra layers and mixing in the coming weeks. Announcements will appear when we are finishing up. Watch for that shit. There'll be at least one, maybe two free songs for the download crew, further release info TBA.
The new songs run from the sublime to the ridiculous. Mostly ridiculous. More info on the Secrets... page.

Crime Scene
July 2010
Left battered and bleeding in the dumpster.... This is the legacy of an awesome weekend of brutal shred prog carnage in Southern California. Props to the awesome WITT for the brotherhood.
We'll be off to Sharkbite Studios to lay down the most recent statements of sonic disembowelment in the coming weeks.

NEW SHIT
We're also cooking up some new songs, some of which we'll definitely be playing at upcoming shows. We have studio time booked and hope to have at least an EP (maybe a full album - we'll see) ready to release later in the year. Look out for that. Some goofy working titles are 'Sprain', 'Headlice', 'Jamie Lee Courteous' and 'Triple Threat'. Whatever. We're also re-recording one older song that is unreleased, 'Beefbattle'.
Chances are we'll only release these new songs digitally (possibly vinyl also?). CD seems like a dead format but we'll see. Let us know if you have any ideas. Either way, new songs available soon!
NorCal - Jan 2010
We just played 3 shows with our bro's NINJA ACADEMY in SF, Berkeley and Chico this past weekend (jan 21-23). All awesome shows despite the rain doing its best every night to keep people away. Thanks to all the folks who came to see us and helped out, especially Ingrid at Gilman and La Fin Du Monde in Chico. Turned out the rain lost!
Set for the 3 shows:
Wilhelm Scream Dream Team
Tyrannical Sound Engines
Shallowed Be Thy Name
Miles Davis Dials Mavis
Sweet Dreams (Beyonce)
Debacle
Droid Poem
MC Warhammer
We also played Just Dance (Lady Gaga) and Drain In Flood in San Francisco, as well as a teaser of an unnamed new song we're still working on.
For those that asked, we have Kaoss pads stuck to our guitars. Those and our new DIY light show got their tryout during these shows and look like they will continue as part of We be the Echo version 2010.
UPDATE: Our set at the Hemlock was recorded by Mke G from Wiretap Music for his show on Breakthru Radio. You can listen to the show HERE on the "Bay Area Live" show. For those in a hurry, skip to 27:00 when the show is fully loaded. (Note: The covers had to be omitted due to regulations, sorry!)
UPDATE #2: A review of the Hemlock show (with audio and video) is available HERE at Wiretap Music.

Santa Rosa, CA - Nov 20, 2009
I think we broke Cafe Azul....Awesome show, great turnout, but volume issues! The restaurant upstairs apparently didn't like the rumbling and high pitched squeals from below....We made it through though with a great response. Thanks to all that came out and the other bands, La Fin Du Monde, The Girl With Violent Arms and Starskate. Good times and great coffee.
Pasadena & Long Beach - Nov 6-7, 2009
Cool shows in the greater LA area this weekend.
Pasadena was awesome. The Old Town Pub has a cool vibe with an outdoor patio, met lots of new people and connected with old friends too. Thanks to Kimo, Paul, Adam and Carlos, and it was great to reconnect with our bro's Ninja Academy, Totally Serious and Clevis.
Pasadena set:
Siddhartha & Nancy
Where's The MacGuffin?/Masks II
The Basic Premit Of Flight
Tyrannical Sound Engines
Wilhelm Scream Dream Team
Droid Poem
Just Dance (Lady GaGa)
MC WarHammer
Di Piazza's had a strange vibe but ended up being really cool. There is a big gap from the stage to the booths where everyone sits, so it's definitely a strange place to play compared to what we're used to, but the line for cd's at the end of set and the many kind words definintely proved to us it was more than worth it! Special thanks to Brad and Janelle.

Slim's SF w/ Melt Banana - Oct 30, 2009
Show review:
"We Be The Echo...played an impressive set that ranged from complex, dueling math-rock to classically-influenced thrash metal, and everything in between. It was somewhat amusing to see the crowd try and follow the asynchronous beats of their songs, while the band played with utmost precision and unerring concentration (the drummer shook his hands free of aches after nearly every song)."
-Spinning Platters
A Youtube vid has appeared here.
The Slim's set:
Don't Concentrate On The Finger/Hymns & Hearse medley
The Cosmic Cosby Penguin Dance
Tyrannical Sound Engines
Shredder Of Wheat & Souls
Wilhelm Scream Dream Team
Droid Poem
Just Dance (Lady GaGa cover)
MC WarHammer

New album 'Masks' out now

2. Droid Poem ( our hymn to R2, the Death Star Droid and Wall-E! )
3. MC Warhammer ( our straight up 'bring the hammer down' anthem )
4. Miles Davis Dials Mavis ( part reggae, part shred, part prog...)

6. The Basic Premit Of Flight ( an homage to mispronunciation and Ilk's Mythbusters appearance )
7. Tyrannical Sound Engines (Jizzy Jeff & The French Priest )
8. Shallowed Be Thy Game ( inspired by Iron Maiden and delay pedals )
